A six-year-old boy has got his wish for a slide at a popular park after putting his case to a Formby Labour councillor.
Six-year-old Jack Rigby is a regular at Alt Road play park.
But the young thrill-seeker had just one problem. He couldn't use the existing slide-playframe because of the odd steps leading to the top of platform.
So he contacted Ravenmeols Ward Labour councillor Catie Page for help.
Jack told Cllr Page that a new traditional slide was needed for all of the children who use the park.
After receiving hearing Jack's plea, Cllr Page immediately took steps to get a slide installed in the park for Jack and other children like him.
Cllr Page said: "Jack really put together a strong argument for the new slide. He clearly made the case for a new traditional slide to be installed in Alt Road park for other children like him who find it difficult to negotiate the playframe.
"I visited the park together with Jack to see for myself the problem. And he had a point.
"The steps on the existing playframe were difficult to negotiate for a large number of children, so they couldn't enjoy the slide and were therefore left to only play on the swings and the see-saw animals.
"Even the swings required an adult to sit a child into, so there was very little that a young child could play on autonomously.
"So I got together with my ward colleague Cllr Peter Maguire, who agreed with my assessment and with Jack's eloquent request, and we put the case for ward funds to be spent on installing a new slide which in turn would improve the park."
The new slide has been installed and it gets the thumbs up from Jack.
Cllr Page said: "The slide was installed really quickly and a new safety flooring has been installed to make it extra safe.
"I went along to the park again with Jack and he is delighted. Even before the workmen had finished the installation, he was raring to get going on the new slide.
"Jack gave me a big hug to say thank you - but thanks shouldn't go to me. This new slide is all down to Jack.
"So thanks Jack for contacting me. I hope you and the other young visitors to Alt Road park enjoy the slide."
