Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson was on hand to give out certificates to school support staff at Newfield Special School in Thornton.
The certificates were in recognition of the excellent work that support staff do in school and which enables teaching and learning to be as effective as possible for the children.
The 'I'm a start in my school' celebration is organised by UNISON for their thousands of members in schools and Bill Esterson MP was invited by the union to present certificates to UNISON members at Newfield Special School.
Bill Esterson said: "I was delighted to be asked to present the certificates by Sefton UNISON. School support staff are often the unsung heroes in our schools and assist teachers in and out of the classroom so that teaching and learning is as effective as possible.
"Learning assistants and non teaching staff alike all make a massive contribution to the education of our children and this is especially true of schools like Newfield which is attended by some of the children in most need of support.
"I would like to pay tribute to the work that our school support staff do and to the work of all staff in our schools.
"UNISON do a fantastic job, working with their members and with schools across Merseyside to make sure that children have the best possible education and I really enjoyed meeting some UNISON members today and sharing their celebration of the recognition of how hard they work.
"I was also pleased to be able to visit Newfield School and congratulate all of the winners of the 'Stars in Schools' awards in schools right across my constituency and beyond."
