According to the Daily Telegraph yesterday, a report has been compiled by the government which questions the safety of on shore windfarms.
However, it appears that Lib Dem ministers have tried to prevent publication of the report. I have written to the Lib Dem secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey, requesting a copy of the report as there are plans for a sizeable wind farm at the Lower Alt between Lydiate and Ince Blundell.
It appears the Lib Dem side of the coalition is strongly in favour of wind farms while the Conservatives have more mixed views on the subject.
But if evidence has been produced showing safety concerns to people living nearby, then this should be published.
We clearly need to explore all the options for renewable energy but those affected by wind farms need to know the truth. I hope that the Lib Dem secretary of state has not suppressed a report about the safety of wind farms and I have asked him to send me a copy or explain why he is refusing to do so.
My constituents have the right to see all the evidence both positive and negative and to know what if any risk they face from the plans for a large windfarm near where they live. It would be reckless of the Lib Dems to deny people the information and it would be profoundly disturbing if the Lib Dems or for that matter the Conservatives decided not to publish such information.
