Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson reports increase in const

Bill Esterson

Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson said he has seen a huge upturn in the number of constituents coming to him for help because they are losing their benefits.

In just the past few months, the MP said he has helped scores of people with concerns about losing benefits or even services which they rely on.

Bill said he is expecting that number to continue to rise as the Tory-Lib Dem Government continues to cut benefits and funding to vital services.

Bill said: "My office has seen a considerable up turn in the number of people coming to me for help.

"People now are starting to feel the pain of this government's failed policies.

"My staff and I do everything we can to help people who come to us for help. My caseworkers are skilled in the benefits system and how best to help people.

"For those people who we can't help because the cuts have been implemented, we provide support and guidance on what they can do next to get further assistance, and their experiences are ones which I refer to, with prior permission, in Parliament to try and hammer home to this government how their failing policies are hurting people right here in Sefton Central."

Bill said there are a number of ways in which people can contact him for help.

People can call the office to get help from a caseworker, or by making an appointment to see Bill directly at one of his weekly surgeries throughout the constituency.

Bill holds surgeries by appointment only and through home visits in:

  *   Formby - first Friday of the month
  *   Crosby - second Friday of the month
  *   Aintree - third Friday of the month
  *   Maghull - fourth Friday of the month

Bill said people are welcome to call the office to make an appointment to meet him.

Bill said: "I know people need help at this time. As the MP for the area, I feel it is my responsibility to provide all the help that I can.

"If people want to speak to me, please call the office and we can arrange an appointment to attend one of my surgeries throughout the constituency or I can arrange a meeting at another convenient time.

"I also have an excellent team that works for me who will do everything they can to help.

"My door is always open, so if ever you need help, please contact me and we will see what we can do."
