Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson joins Sefton dignitaries

Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson joined Melling Parish Council Chairman Cllr Ron Baker and Mayor of Sefton Cllr Maureen Fearn, together with dignitaries from throughout Sefton for the Melling Parish Council Civic Service.

Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson attended the annual Melling Civic Service at the weekend.

Bill joined dignitaries from throughout Sefton including borough Mayor Cllr Maureen Fearn at the special service at Most Holy Redeemer & St Kentigern Parish Church in Melling Village.

The service is organised by Melling Parish Council and included participation from the Village's Scouts and Guides.

Melling Primary School Choir and Melling Gospel Choir provided the entertainment during the service.

Bill Esterson attends the special service each year.

Bill said: "As usual, I really enjoyed Melling Civic Service.

“Melling Primary Choir and Melling Gospel Choir were fantastic and it was a real treat to get to hear them perform.

“ It is always great to see so many people from the community, young and older, coming together to celebrate the community.

"At this tough time when children and families are bearing the brunt of the cuts, it is important that we recognise the important work that our parish councils do to make our communities even better. That is why Melling Civic Service is always well attended and it is something that I always look forward to."

After the service, Bill joined dignitaries and residents following the service for a reception.

Bill said: "It was good to chat to people at the reception and to hear about some of the history of the village.

"Melling really is a great community, with a rich history. I am proud to be its MP and I am proud that there are so many people who work hard to continue to make it a great place to live."
