Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson got Maghull's Green Park and St John Bosco primary schools under starters order when he launched the schools' mini Games Week.

Pupils from the two schools took part in the activities throughout the week to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics which starts later this month.

Despite being on crutches after snapping his achilles tendon at a charity football match, Bill said he was delighted to launch the sporting activities.

Bill said: "I was really pleased to launch the Green Park Primary and St John Bosco sports week.

"All of the children got into the spirit and really enjoyed taking part.

"From what I saw, we will have some Olympic hopefuls of the future coming from Maghull.

"I congratulate all the teachers, staff and pupils for putting on such a great event."
