Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson said it was a "real joy" to visit Summerhill Primary School this week.

The MP visited the school after meeting some of the children in parliament a few weeks earlier, which was organised by the parliamentary education service.

Bill Esterson said: "It was a real joy to be shown around by some of the children and to meet the school council. I also enjoyed watching part of the rehearsal for the end of year musical about Shakespeare.

"The children clearly enjoy going to school and the staff are very committed.

"The school is adapted so that children with physical disabilities can join their classmates and it is to the credit of everyone at Summerhill that they look after a number of children with additional needs.

"The chickens and the garden help to make sure this a school with more than a bit extra and it was a joy to visit."
