Formby’s Labour MP Bill Esterson is calling on people in the town to support an event celebrating William Shakespeare’s 444th birthday.
Bill met Tony Higginson who runs Formby Books and Vicky Abban who manages the store and pledged his support to the event at Formby Pool on Tuesday (April 23) starting at 8pm.
The event will involve a talk from Edge Hill University Lecturer Alban O'Brien and readings of Shakespeare.
The shop is also a free buffet and a sample of mead or non alcoholic punch. More information is available from Tony Higginson at Formby Books in Halsall Lane or on 01704 830130.
Bill said: “I was really impressed to hear from Tony that he was organising the Shakespeare celebration at Formby Pool and I would encourage people to support the event. We need good activities in Formby for people to attend and what better than a celebration of our finest literary figures.
"Tony is very keen to promote events in Formby and this is the first of many events which he and other traders are planning. Tony also told me about the Viking festival set for the autumn and it was very refreshing to find someone so keen to make a difference in the local community.
"I enjoyed visiting Formby Books and we need to encourage small businesses in Formby so if events like this help Tony and other traders so much the better. It was great to see that the shop had been decorated by a local student, Holly Bushnell who is painting a mural in the shop. Hannah is the Sixth form at Formby High School and the link between school and local business and the wider community is also very encouraging.
"I hope that the Shakespeare celebration goes well on 23 April and that the other events this year are a success. Good luck to everyone involved.”
