Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson is encouraging youngsters to aim high in an attempt to break a blooming great world record.
The MP called along to B&Q in Aintree to encourage young people to take part in a record breaking event to grow the world's tallest sunflower.
Youngsters were given a free sunflower sapling to take home and try their hand at growing a record breaking flower.
Bill said the scheme was a good way of encouraging young people to develop gardening skills.
Bill said: "This is a great idea to get young people interested in horticulture and discovering that gardening can be fun.
"I know that lots of schools in Sefton run gardening clubs. My son attends his school's club here in Maghull and really enjoys it.
"Both he and his sister will be taking part in this scheme and will both be competing not just for the biggest sunflower in our house, but the biggest sunflower in the world."
