Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Estersn has given his backing to a bid by Thornton Parish Council to turn the clock back on the village's historic sundial.
Thornton Parish Council are bidding for funding to bring the Green Lane sundial back to its former glory.
Bill Esterson said he would give any support Thornton Parish Council needed to help them achieve their aim.
Bill said: "Thornton sun dial, and the stocks, are key historic landmarks in this area.
"I am told that the stocks date back to 1791 and the sundial dates back to 1720. That's nearly 300 years old.
"Because of their location on Green Lane, they are seen by thousands of people who drive past every single day.
"I fully support Thornton Parish Council in their bid to restore the sundial and make improvements to the surrounding.
"We need to not only protect out historic landmarks, but also celebrate our heritage.
"The sundial is a major part of the heritage not only of Thornton, but also the whole of Sefton."
