MP fighting Government cuts for walk-in centre

Many people in Maghull, Lydiate, Aintree and Melling have told me they would like us to have our own Walk-In Centre  in Maghull. I live in Maghull with my wife and children and we would certainly like a walk in centre as well. So I was pleased that so many people had signed a petition supporting the idea. At last year's general election, I pointed out that we needed a Labour government to be elected so that we could see investment in our NHS right here in East Sefton, both for a walk in centre and also to support our GP surgeries, which as many of you know are under pressure, whether in Maghull or in Melling. Unfortunately, Labour lost that election and the Conservatives have continued the cuts and austerity which mean there is no money for investment in health services or other public services.

In order to help Maghull, and other areas of Sefton, we need a change in Government. It’s as simple as that. Owen Smith is one of the contenders for the Labour leadership. He has pledged an extra 4% a year in funding to the NHS – exactly the type of policy which will make a very real and tangible difference in our community if implemented in Government.

I am working hard in Westminster, as part of the Labour Party, to oppose Government cuts. Labour councillors in Maghull, Lydiate, Aintree and Melling are doing all they can as welI. There are opportunities for some improvements which our NHS is working on despite a shortage of funds. But it is government cuts that are preventing a walk in centre in Maghull and it will take the election of a Labour government to reverse cuts in health and especially social care services for our elderly and disabled people. The Conservatives will never invest in our NHS and want to privatise it not invest in a new walk in centre. I support those campaigning for a walk in centre but they need to work with Labour for a change of government for Such a facility to have any chance of becoming a reality in Maghull.
