Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson said he feared for the safety of the borough's most vulnerable people as it emerged that the Tory-Lib Dem Government had slashed yet more from Sefton's budget in the days before Christmas.
Last Wednesday (December 19), the Tory-Lib Dem Government announced it was slashing Sefton's budget by another £7m on top of the £43m cuts previously expected.
Bill said no part of Sefton would escape the pain of the cuts.
Bill said: "These cuts are already hurting every part of Sefton's communities. The latest local government settlement is an insult for Sefton and an insult for everyone in Sefton.
"The cuts which are being imposed by the Tories and Lib Dems will hit all of our services in this borough. Vital services which the vulnerable rely on are under threat.
"I have raised the concerns which constituents have raised with me in Parliament. But this government is hell bent on wielding the deepest and most unfair cuts in the history of local government."
Bill said the Tories and Lib Dems were targeting people in Sefton unfairly with what he called a "dangerous slash and burn" policy.
The MP said: "We have seen attack upon attack by this Tory-Lib Dem Government on the people of Sefton.
"Sefton has been hit harder than most by Tory-Lib Dem Government cuts. Whereas Dorset has had cuts of just £1.20 per person, even before the latest figures cuts in Sefton had totalled in excess of £350 per person.
"This government is hitting my constituents disproportionately hard with its disastrous economic policies. They are punishing hardworking people for the failure of the bankers, while rewarding millionaires with generous tax cuts.
"Changes to benefits which are coming in in the new year will see 1,240 families in my constituency having £2,450-a-year taken from therm.
"In April more changes will come in which will see benefits taken from those who need them most, the majority of whom are working people, with most of the rest, people who are doing everything they can to find a job when there are no jobs.
"This Tory-Lib Dem Government is failing to deal with the deficit. Government borrowing has actually increased. And people in my constituency are feeling the pain the most as a result of their incompetence.
"It is no coincidence that it is Sefton Central hardest hit by this government. These are ideological attacks."
