Cllr Kermode officially welcomed the festive season to the town on Friday evening.
Pupils from Maghull schools entertained the crowds as they performed Christmas Carols.
Cllr Kermode said: "It is a great honour to be the Mayor of Maghull and it is a great pleasure to be the person to officially usher in the festive season.
"You know that Christmas is coming when Maghull's Christmas lights are turned on.
"The Christmas lights always put a smile on people's faces. We need to take advantage of every opportunity to add a little joy. The Christmas Lights switch-on certainly does just that.
"My Maghull Town Council colleagues and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in organising this year's switch on, including Maghull Town Team, Maghull and District Cluster of Schools, as well as St John Ambulance and Merseyside Police for their help.
"This is the real start of Christmas for us here in Maghull, so this is the perfect time to wish everyone in Maghull a very merry Christmas."
MP Bill Esterson said he was delighted so many people came out to enjoy the festivities.
Bill said: "It was great to see so many people come out to enjoy the fun.
"The entertainment was fantastic. Pupils from our schools performed fantastically well and really got everyone into the Christmas spirit.
"I'd like to congratulate the staff of Maghull Town Council for putting on a fantastic Christmas lights switch-on.
"The Christmas lights are an important part of Christmas for the businesses in and around the square and for the town itself.
"We have a great community here in Maghull and the Christmas lights switch-on proved it."
