Mayor and Mayoress of Maghull, Labour's Councillors Steve and Gwen Kermode, praised all the artists behind a brand new mosaic commemorating the life and times of Frank Hornby.

The Mayor and Mayoress unveiled the impressive mosaic which takes pride of place at Maghull Train Station - just yards from the toy entrepreneur's home on Station Road.

Pupils and teachers from Deyes High, together with members of Maghull U3A and community artist Chrissy Webster, came up with the design and constructed the mosaic over the period of a few months.

Cllr Kermode, who had the honour of unveiling the mosaic at Maghull Station, said he was delighted to officially unveil the artwork which honours one of Maghull's favourite sons.

Cllr Kermode said: "I'd like to congratulate everyone who was involved in this project, including the pupils and staff of Deyes High, members of the U3A, the Maghull Station volunteers and community artist Chrissy Webster.

"The mosaic itself is a fantastic tribute to Frank Hornby and is perfectly located at the train station which inspired much of his work.

"Hornby himself was a great inspiration to many young people, particularly of my generation with his train sets and Meccano.

"I think he would be delighted to see young people being inspired today to create such a fantastic and lasting tribute to a great Maghull man."
