The Maghull winner of this year's competition to design MP Bill Esterson's Christmas card was unveiled during a special assembly at her school this week.

Northway Primary Year 4 pupil Isabelle Donegan's festive design was chosen ahead of hundreds of designs by youngsters from schools throughout Sefton Central.

Isabelle's Christmas card has now be printed up and is already being delivered to thousands of people throughout Maghull, Lydiate, Aintree, Melling, Formby, Thornton, Crosby and Hightown.

School headteacher Mrs Ros Gill called the pupils together for the special assembly where Bill Esterson made his surprise announcement and presented Isabelle with her prize and gave her the MP's first Christmas card of the year featuring her Father Christmas design.

The young designer told the MP: "We were asked to come up with a design for the Christmas card competition and we all went home and worked on it.

"I want to be an artist when I grow up, so I worked really hard on it.

"I came up with the idea of using Father Christmas with his elves.

"When my name was read out at assembly I was really shocked, surprised and happy that I won.

"My mum and dad will be really proud of me."

Mrs Gill said she was delighted that a Northway pupil had come up with the winning design.

She said: "Isabelle's design is brilliant. It captures the excitement and spirit of Christmas. We are all really proud of her.

"We had lots of entries from Northway this year. Most of the pupils wanted to enter and they went home and worked on the designs before bringing them back in.

"The quality of all of the entries was really high and I don't envy Bill and the other judges' task having to choose a winner."

Bill Esterson thanked all the youngsters who entered the competition.

Bill said: "The standard of entries this year was really high, which goes to show the level of creative talent we have in our primary schools here in Sefton Central.

"But isabelle's colourful Christmas design really stood out and I was delighted to select her design to be the one on my Christmas card.

"It is now being delivered to thousands and thousands of people in this constituency as well as colleagues in Westminster.

"Thanks you to Isabelle for coming up with a brilliant design and everyone who entered. I am proud to show off the work of the young talented artists we have in Sefton Central."
