Maghull Town Council's Labour leader said he was so impressed by Formby's Dickensian Day he would like to bring a similar event to Maghull.
Cllr Maurice Byrne visited the annual Dickensian Day event in Formby Village last week.
He said it is just the type of community event which he'd like to bring to Maghull.
Cllr Byrne said: "Formby's Dickensian Day is a real community event. It is the community that organises it and it is the community that comes together to make it such a fantastic day each and every year.
"I think a similar event could be as successful for Maghull.
"Although these are only initial thoughts, if we held it in Central Square, we could attract lots of potential customers which would be a boost for our local shops.
"We could get the local schools involved and work to make a spectacular day for everyone in Maghull and promote the town to people outside our community."
Cllr Byrne said the community day could be a real focus for the people of Maghull. He is suggesting the idea to Maghull Town Council's new Community Committee.
Cllr Byrne said: "At one time we used to have big community events in Maghull, I remember the carnival and parade at Parkhaven Trust which attracted hundreds and it was a really fun day.
"Over the years people from Maghull have taken part in Formby's Dickensian Day including Maghull Handbell Ringers and even my wife who was on of the drummers at this year's event. I'm sure they all would lik to take part in our very own event to make ours as successful as Formby's.
"We still have excellent events here in Maghull organised by our local schools and churches, but none that include the whole community. That's what I'd like to see re-introduced to Maghull. A real community event which brings together all members of the community.
"I would like to see a return to that - and this could be just the opportunity to do it."
