Maghull Town Council Labour Councillors

Labour Councillors are planning to bring Maghull Town Council into the 21st century by streaming its meetings live online.

Councillors are preparing to broadcast its meetings onto the world wide web so that Maghull residents can keep up to date with all of Maghull Town Councils decisions.

It means that anyone with an internet connection can keep abreast of all the town council's decisions as they happen from the comfort of your own home.

The decision to broadcast the town council meetings came as councillors tore up a ruling which prohibited the use of electronic communication in the council chamber.

Maghull Town Council's Labour leader Cllr Caroline Esterson said opening up the council chamber to modern technology would ensure that members of the public were involved in the decision making process.
Cllr Esterson said: "We want to make sure that the decisions Maghull Town Council make are as transparent as possible. By streaming the meetings, we will be making sure that members of the public in Maghull can see the process as it happens.
"We want to bring people right in and be able to see how we make the decisions that affect people's lives and see how Maghull Town Council spends their money on making Maghull an even greater place to live, work and visit.
"Some members of the public already attend the town council's meetings. Hopefully once we start broadcasting the meetings, we'll get more logging on and tuning in."
Cllr Esterson said she also hopped that the move will increase members of the public's involvement in the council.
Cllr Esterson said: "As well as streaming the meetings online, we want to get people involved.
"So we will be inviting people to send us their comments directly online through he council website so we can take into account other people's views as and when we are making decisions.
"And this whole process will cost us nothing to set up. We already have internet access at the town hall. We have a laptop and a web cam. So essentially we are ready to go.
"This could be a very exciting new era for Maghull Town Council.
"It is the Labour Councillors on Maghull Town Council pushing open the doors of the town hall to the public. We are getting the public involved.
"We are bringing Maghull Town Council into the 21st century and again striving to put the community at the heart of the decision making process."
