Ashworth Cricket Club is planning to bowl you over this month when it hosts its second annual Summer Fete.
Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson will be officially opening the fun day on Sunday, August 18 and the club home on Park Lane.
Club chairman Richie Hooton and Park Lane resident Rhonda Latham are trying to get as many people as possible to go along and enjoy the fun on the day.
Rhonda said: "We are trying to build on the success of last year's fun day when we had hundreds of people join us.
"We have a fantastic community facility here at Ashworth Cricket Club which we would like to share with the entire community of Maghull.
"People are welcome to come along on Sunday, August 18 to see for themselves the facilities we have here at the club and join in the fun.
"We have even more fun-filled activities planned this year, including a dog display, morris dancers, a falconer and much more. We are adding activities all the time. And refreshments will be available throughout the day.
"Ashworth Cricket Club is very much a community organisation. Our Summer Fete is very much a community event. I hope as many people as possible come along, see what facilities we have an offer and support the club and the community."
Richie said the club is drawing up plans to start a youth team at the club. Anyone interested in joining can sign up on the day.
Richie said: "We've got a fantastic history at Ashworth Cricket Club - we want to build on that.
"We plan to create junior teams and open up the whole cricket club to the wider community.
"We've had expressions of interest from young people who live nearby and I think we could get a really good junior team going.
"So young or old come along to the Ashworth Cricket Club Summer Fete and found out more about us and how you can get involved."
Maghull's MP Bill Esterson said he is always impressed by the facilities at Ashworth Cricket Club.
Bill said: "Ashworth Cricket Club has a fantastic pitch, fantastic clubhouse and you are always guaranteed a warm welcome.
"That's why I was delighted to be invited back to open the Summer Fete again this year.
"Lots of people have said to me they don't know where the cricket club is. It is tucked behind the large fence, so it is very much a hidden gem.
"I know Richie, Rhonda and the team want to bring more people in, and that is exactly what they will be doing at the Summer Fete.
"I'm a cricket player and supporter myself, so I am delighted that we have another thriving club in our community. I will do all I can to support them with their plans to open up and expand. And I will do all I can to help them set up junior teams over the coming months and years.
"I hope everyone else in the community supports the club and attends the summer fun day."
Ashworth Cricket Club fun day will be held on Sunday, August 18 from 11am-5pm. The entrance to the club is on Park Lane directly opposite the entrance to Beechway.
