Lydiate and Maghull Labour Action Teams are urging people in East Sefton to have their say on plans to create a windfarm that runs along the Cheshire Lines between Lydiate and Formby.
The windfarm, which is being proposed by Coriolis Energy, will include 24 wind turbines which would be up to 136.5m tall.
As the land itself falls just outside of the Sefton boundary, it will be West Lancs planning committee who will decide whether the plans are given the greenlight.
Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson, whose constituency includes Maghull, Lydiate, Lunt, Ince Blundell and Formby, has written to West Lancs planning department to pass on some of the concerns of residents within his constituency.
Last week, Lydiate and Maghull Labour Action Teams' Cllr June Burns attended a public meeting organised by campaign group HALT at St Thomas School in Lydiate’s Kenyons Lane.
Cllr Burns said: "It was clear from the well attended meeting that there are some very real concerns about the plans for a windfarm just outside of Lydiate.
"The plans, which would see 24 windturbines which are the equivalent of the height of St John's Beacon in Liverpool, would become a huge feature on our landscape.
"But because the site of the proposed site of this development is outside of the Sefton boundary, it actually falls within the responsibility of West Lancs Borough Council. So while it is Sefton residents who will be more affected by this windfarm, it will be West Lancs councillors who will decide whether the application will get the go ahead or not.
"It is therefore crucial that residents of Lydiate and Maghull have their say about the plans. West Lancs Borough Council needs to know the views and concerns of the people right here in East Sefton and that is why Lydiate and Maghull Labour Action Teams are encouraging everyone here in East Sefton to have their say."
Cllr Burns has been raising awareness of the windfarm plans throughout Lydiate and Maghull.
Cllr Burns said: "Since Lydiate and Maghull Labour Action Teams heard about the windfarm plans, we have been in the process of leafleting in Maghull and Lydiate to let people know about the plans.
"One of the early concerns about this application was the poor communication from West Lancs to Sefton and the residents who are going to be most affected by these plans.
"So we have been busy raising awareness of the application and since then, we have received a number of emails and letters from residents who are concerned about the impact of these plans on their community.
"The over-riding message is clear. This is right on our doorstep. We want clean, affordable energy, but we don't want that to be at the expense of the local environment or the community as a whole."
