Maghull Town Council Labour Councillor Maurice Byrne is urging people from throughout Maghull to attend next week's Community Forum event.

The Labour councillor created the idea of the Community Forum in an effort to encourage people to come up with new community group ideas and also to help existing groups expand.

Cllr Byrne said: "The idea behind this public event is to bring community groups together to meet the new Maghull Town Council Community Committee and to find out what Maghull Town Council can do to help them.

"The event itself, which will be held on Wednesday, February 22, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Maghull Town Hall, will be like a promotion fair, followed by a workshop which will focus on 'what can Maghull Town Council do to encourage and assist Maghull community organisations'.

"What we would like to see is existing community groups coming along to discuss what we can do for them, but also people with ideas for new groups.

"We will have people on hand who can give advice and guidance on the best ways to start up a community group. So anyone who has any ideas should come along."

Cllr Byrne said community groups can also find out more about making bids for a new Maghull Town Council community fund of up to £500.

Cllr Byrne said: "We want community groups in Maghull to thrive and expand, particularly at a time when we are seeing community groups struggling because funding has become very difficult to come by.

"Community groups can and should play a huge part in our society. We want these group to be an integral part of our community here in Maghull.

"Maghull Town Council wants to make that a reality."

Maghull Town Council's Community Forum will be held on Wednesday, February 22, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Maghull Town Hall.
