Green motorists are getting a buzz when they go to Maghull's Meadows Leisure Centre, and Labour's Bill Esterson has given it the thumbs up.
A new electric vehicle charging point has been installed in the leisure centre car park.
It is designed to encourage people to convert from using polluting petrol cars to more environmentally friendly electric vehicles.
Labour's Bill Esterson welcomed the scheme.
Bill said: "Anything that encourages us to start using more environmentally friendly vehicles the better. Charging points are needed to keep electric cars moving and I am sure this new point at the Meadows is just the start.
"I welcome this initiative. It can only be a good thing for the environment."
Bill said he would be tempted to even go electric if there were more charging points throughout the region.
Bill said: "I love the idea of electric vehicles. They are coming down in price and with the proliferation of these charging pints, they are becoming a valid alternative to petrol cars.
"This is something I am sure we would all welcome, particularly with the ever fluctuating price of petrol.
"What this charging point at the Meadows does is give people the chance to charge up while they're working out. So the environment benefits as does the owner's health. Of course, there's an even better way of improving your health and the environment, both at the same time - and that is to walk to the gym."
