Labour MP Bill Esterson officially opens Maghull Art Group’s summer exhibition

Labour MP Bill Esterson officially opens Maghull Art Group summer exhibition at Deyes High.

Labour MP Bill Esterson officially launched Maghull Art Group's summer exhibition at the weekend.

The MP launched the display of paintings by Maghull artists at Deyes High.

Part of the exhibition was set aside for paintings depicting 'Sefton and the local area'.

Maghull Art Group's chosen charity, Maghull Young Adults Social Club (MYASC) also benefited from the exhibition, as several group members donated the proceeds from the sale of their sold paintings to the charity.

Group committee member Tony Rimmer said: "We are very grateful to Bill for giving up his time to open the exhibition. We realise Bill is very busy, so it is fantastic how he supports local groups and events.

"Deyes High School is an excellent venue to hold an exhibition and the Maghull Art Group fully appreciate the support that they give in setting up the event, with the help of the caretakers. The exhibition gallery provides lots of space to display the art-work and gives a very good natural light from above to view the paintings.

"There is also a room set aside to show ‘work in progress’ where several of the artists were available to talk about their work and pass on a few tips to interested visitors."

Tony told Bill that visitors had left very positive feedback in the group's comments book praising the quality of the artwork.

The MP was also presented with a painting by artist Bob Goldborough.

Bill said: "The exhibition was fantastic and I am honoured to have been invited to open it.

"What the exhibition showed me, and the many hundreds of people who attended over the two days, was the talent we have here in Maghull.

"These are local artists depicting the local community in which they live. They are absolutely brilliant. I'd be pleased to hang any of them on my walls - and after attending the exhibition with my wife, a few of them now are.

"I'd also like to thank the group for presenting me with a painting by bob Goldsborough. I was delighted to receive it and it will be proudly hanging in my lounge."

Maghull Art Group will be holding their next exhibition on November 15 and 16 at Deyes High. As well as the full array of members' paintings on display, there will also be a special theme of 'Remembrance' to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
