Labour MP backs Melling Parish Council campaign to put village o

Labour MP Bill Esterson with Melling Parish Council's chairman Cllr Gerry Lee and clerk John McLaren, and Molyneux Ward Labour Councillor and Melling Parish Councillor Tony Carr.

Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson has backed a campaign by Melling Parish Council to really put the village on the map.

Melling Parish Council and the local MP are calling on Royal Mail to add 'Melling' to the postal address.

At the moment, many Melling addresses are shown as Maghull or Liverpool.

Melling Parish Council has written to Royal Mail to ask for all properties in the village to have the Melling address.

Melling Parish Council chairman Cllr Gerry Lee said: "I have spoken to a number of people who have raised the issue that Melling doesn't appear on the postal address for the village.

"It is surprising that the official listings only show Melling in a small number of cases and that the majority, nearly 1,000, of Melling addresses are shown as Maghull or merely Liverpool.

"Melling Parish Council has resolved to push for these changes and I am delighted to say that we have the backing of our MP Bill Esterson in this campaign."

Bill has also written to Royal Mail as the village's MP to call for the addition of Melling on the postal addresses.

Bill said: "I have written to Royal Mail to ask them to add the village name to the postal address for all Melling households.

"I am more than happy to support Melling Parish Council's campaign.

"Melling is a thriving and growing community with a proud history. It is even recorded in the Domesday Book. It is about time it was recognised by Royal Mail."
