Maghull Town Council Labour councillor Dave Jones welcomed his counterparts from St Andrew's school council to the town council chamber.
The pupils from the Damfield Lane primary school were given a tour of Maghull Town Council chamber and given an insight into the town council's 120 year history.
Following the visit, headboy Jimmy Mitchell and headgirl Lauren Higham wrote to Cllr Jones.
They wrote: "We thank you for the opportunity to visit Maghull Town Hall. It was a wonderful experience. We would also like to thank you for your hospitality and the warm welcome, as well as the fascinating facts we learnt about the history of Maghull Town Council.
"All of the school councillors of St Andrew's enjoyed listening and learning about the role of a good councillor. We are all very grateful."
Cllr Jones said it was good to see young people from Maghull enjoying in local politics and local issues.
Cllr Jones said: "The young school council members from St Andrew's were very interested in everything about Maghull Town Council, what it does and what the role of a town councillor is.
"I had the chance to show them around the council chamber and Maghull Town Hall.
"They were all already very clued up on the local issues and about local democracy.
"In fact while there, one of the youngsters even handed to me a letter putting the case for an upgrade to the park at Round Meade. I assured him that when funds are permitting we will engage with him, and his parents, on any decision that may be made in respect of any new equipment.
"I am really encouraged that we have young people in Maghull who are engaging in this way with the political process and I look forward to some of these youngsters joining Maghull Town Council in years to come."
