Labour MP Bill Esterson has given a warm welcome to a new scheme which will give householders in Sefton Central the opportunity to benefit from freeboiler checks, repairs or even free boiler replacement.

The Affordable Warmth scheme was launched by Energy Alliance in January after successful pilot schemes in Knowsley and South Sefton.

Now householders in Sefton Central who live in their own homes or private rented accommodation could benefit from the free boiler health check scheme.

Bill Esterson encouraged people in Sefton Central to look into whether they could be eligible.

Bill said: "We've just come out of a very long and cold winter. All of our energy bills are through the roof. So I am pleased that as an initial step, some people can benefit from this scheme.

"Old boilers can be unreliable and costly to run, which won't help with the energy bills.

"People are who eligible to benefit from this scheme will get boiler checked, repaired and possibly even replaced. So it is well worth enquiring to see if you are eligible."

Energy Alliance marketing director Simon Holmes said: "We've been encouraged by the response our schemes have had here on Merseyside. We know our activity in South Sefton and Knowsley has made a real difference to many homes and we're delighted to be piloting our free boiler scheme in the region, bringing one of the first projects to the community under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) measures."

ECO sees energy companies provide funding for heating and insulation for people who need it.

Bill added: "We are all paying in to this scheme through our household bills. I want people here in Sefton Central to benefit from this scheme.

"Now is the time to prepare for next winter. You don't want to find yourboiler needs repair next October or November when the cold weather returns - so it's best to check out the scheme now."

To check your eligibility for the scheme, go to www.energy-alliance.co.uk/freeboiler or call the freephone number 0800 644 1400.
