Blundellsands Ward Labour Councillor Veronica Bennett has endorsed a petition signed by 58 locals who are opposing plans by a business to expand.
Sub Sandwich on Cavendish Road, has submitted plans to extend the building with a conservatory and extend its opening hours.
They want to open 7.30am-6.30pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am-6.30pm on Saturday and 9.30am-4pm on Sunday.
By endorsing the petition, Cllr Bennett has ensured that residents can have their say when the plans go before Sefton's Planning Committee.
Cllr Bennett said: "It's important that residents get the chance to put their concerns directly to the planning committee when plans are submitted in their community.
"Now they have submitted a petition, they get the chance to do that.
"It is also an opportunity for the planning committee members to hear the issues directly before making their decision."
Cllr Bennett said the residents have raised some valid concerns.
Cllr Bennett said: "The residents have a number of issues in relation to the application, including parking and loss of privacy concerns.
"They will now get the chance to put their case so that we can ensure that the application is in the best interests of the community."
* The application is scheduled to be heard at Sefton Planning Committee on Wednesday evening (July 25).
