Experience:

I have been an active adult education practitioner for over 25 years. During this time I have developed programmes such as access to further and higher education. I have managed large scale provision for adult literacy and numeracy. I have developed many pre/employment programmes for
unemployed people the most recent a programme with a large motor manufacturer where 120 long term unemployed people will gain the opportunity to gain full time employment. I have experience working at all levels including operational and strategic management.
I have established a successful education and training consultancy, I am a member of North Liverpool Business Community and a volunteer on several regeneration initiatives.

I am an active local campaigner and have recently been elected as a representative for the North West of England on the Labour Party's National Policy Forum.

Personal statement:

My priority for Sudell is to be a strong advocate for the people who live here, representing and supporting them, informing them and being  visible and available through regular surgeries, while listening to and acting on their concerns. I feel that I have started this process by the many local campaigns I have led, but much more needs to be done.

I will work to protect essential services and develop employment opportunities for our young people and workers who have been displaced by the Coalition’s unnecessary cuts in the Public Sector. We need to put people and services first.

I will also be working to ensure that we deal with the concerns of individual residents and neighbourhoods on issues such as transport, the second Maghull railway station, local community services, housing issues, general neighbourhood maintenance and cleanliness and with the police to ensure that anti social behaviour is eliminated.

I have experience working and negotiating with a wide range of people from government ministers, to local officials and employers, I have experience representing and supporting employed and unemployed people.

I believe my understanding of the economy, both local and national, will be advantageous as I know that there are alternatives to the draconian cuts about to be implemented by the Liberal Democrat-Tory Coalition. There has been little attempt to quantify the social cost/impact of these cuts in the
headlong rush to reduce the size of the state, I would aim to highlight that there is an alternative and we should fight for this.

Sudell needs a councillor who will stand up for the best interests of local people and not be a puppet for a government who have no mandate to slash and burn our futures and the future of our young people in the manner that the Coalition are doing. I have been involved in the regeneration of
Merseyside for over 20 years and we are finally beginning to see the benefits, however the danger is that all our gains will now be swept away, because of Mr Osborne's gamble and Mr Clegg's desire for power.
