Green fingered councillors on Melling Parish Council have been putting their skills to good use to get to the root of an anti-social behaviour problem in the village.
Molyneux Ward Labour Councillor Tony Carr, who is also a Melling Parish Councillor, together with Cllrs Jerry Lee, Ron Baker and John Jarvis, have been busy planting shrubs in Rainbow Park.
The new plants are designed to protect surrounding properties from burglary and anti-social behaviour as well as promoting local wildlife.
Cllr Carr said Melling Parish Council was taking proactive action to deal with a problem.
Cllr Carr said: "Melling Parish Councillors wanted to take action to resolve a problem we were having in Rainbow Park and also to take some crime prevention measures.
"We found the best and most cost effective way to deal with the problem was to plant some new locally sourced shrubs into the park.
"This not only supports our local nurseries and businesses, but it is also beneficial to the local wildlife in the park."
Cllr Carr said the park will continue to be monitored.
Cllr Carr said: "We've taken the step of planting the new shrubs to see if that resolves any issues in the park. Hopefully it will.
"But we will be keeping a close eye on the park to see how effective the plants have been and to see if any other measures are needed."
