One of Maghull's newest Labour Councillors will be saying "Guten Tag" to some very special visitors to the town this week.

New Maghull Town Council Labour Councillor Dave Jones will be joining his colleagues from Maghull Football Club to welcome 67 guests from Bavaria to the town.

The German footballers are en route to Maghull because of the town's top class football facilities.

Cllr Jones said: "We are welcoming a total of 67 guests from Langshut, a town outside Munich, Bavaria this week.

"Kenny Pugh of Maghull FC was introduced to Georg Gifthaller through a mutual interest in football. Georg regularly organises trips from Germany to watch football in the UK and was informed of the excellent facilities and standard of football at Maghull FC during a recent visit to Merseyside.

"Thanks to the efforts of Labour-run Maghull Town Council parks and gardens staff and the committee of Maghull FC, the facilities at Hall Lane are acknowledged as among the best at amateur level anywhere.

"The German visitors are coming here to see the faciltiies and the work we do here for themselves and also play a couple of special matches at Hall Lane."

Maghull Football Club will be holding a special day of celebration to mark the visit.

Cllr Jones said: "Two matches will take place on Friday (April 5) together with a BBQ, buffet, refreshments and entertainment provided to our guests and supporters thanks to the remarkable generosity of local businesses who have donated money to ensure the day is a success and give a positive reflection of the community in Maghull.

"The sponsors will be thanked in a souvenir programme printed especially for the occasion.

"Maghull Town Council has been supportive of the event with a generous donation and the Mayor of Maghull has been invited to formally welcome our visitors with whom we will foster a union with reciprocal visits giving Maghull children the opportunity of a lifetime to represent our community in Europe.

"This will be a great event and is testament to the fantastic work that Maghull FC does in the community here in Maghull. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun."

Kick off times on Friday (April 5) are 3.30pm and 5pm and further information can be obtained from the Maghull FC website at http://www.maghullfc.co.uk/.
