Labour Councillor urges people in Maghull and Lydiate to contact

Patrick McKinley

Maghull & Lydiate Labour Action Team is working to ensure that the water keeps flowing in East Sefton.

United Utilities has written to every house in Maghull and Lydiate to inform residents that they are conducting an operation to clean the area's water pipes.

They are warning that water may look discoloured during the work from now until September 21.

Sudell Ward Labour Councillor Patrick McKinley said: "I know that United Utilities have sent letters to households throughout Maghull and Lydiate - I received my letter a few days back.

"While this is purely routine work, the company has informed us that we may experience some water discolouration while the work is being carried out.

"If you find that your water is brown in colour and has particles in it, then the advice is to run your cold water tap, the one nearest to the stop tap which is usually in the kitchen, until the water runs clear.

"United Utilities also advises not to wash clothes, operate a dishwasher or use an electrically powered shower when water is discoloured."

The company say most of the work will be carried out during the night.

Cllr McKinley said: "While United Utilities has said most of the work will take place during the evening, customers should not experience any disruption to service.

"But this is obviously something we need to keep an eye on and ensure that people do not experience undue disruption.

"If people do have problems with their water supply, they should contact United Utilities directly. If the problem persists, please let the Maghull & Lydiate Labour Action Team know."
