Training for young people

Whether I am talking to my neighbours in Maghull or constituents in Melling, Aintree or Crosby, you all tell me very similar things.

You want good well paid jobs for you and for your families.
You want your children and grandchildren to have the best possible education and skills so that they can have a good standard of living.
You want good quality homes, better road, rail and bus networks.
You also tell me you want the best possible public services, whether in the NHS or from Sefton Council.
My priority is to make sure that we have the kind of economy that makes this all possible.
Having high skill, high paid jobs is also the way to have sound public finances and only by having an economy that is underpinned by successful business can we have a country where we look after those who need additional support.

Pensioners, people with disabilities and those unable to find work all need a strong economy.
Over the next five years, I shall do all I can to make sure that the government contributes to creating an economy that works for all of the people of this country, not just for a few.

We need to help businesses thrive by having a banking system that supports and encourages them.
We need to make sure that we continue to benefit from being members of the European Union, so that foreign investors want to put their money into this country and especially into Merseyside and North West England.
And we need the government to support local authorities to make sure that services and infrastructure are in place to give the backing to business so it can thrive and so it can create and support those high skill, high paid jobs.
We may have lost the election, but my Labour colleagues and I will do what we can to work towards such success over the next five years, regardless of what the Conservatives may or may not do in government.
